When you need to refit your fleet with new tech, don’t do it tech by tech and all in one place, instead accumulate 2-3 tech upgrades for your fleet and build multiple shipyards (planets with the highest production value and a space station, if it has an Ancient Shipyard, even better). Note, your neighbors can still colonize worlds under the “protection” of that Battlestation, yet they are not very inclined to do so (aggressive economic denial use). Found a border system with six planets all that have Strategic resources near them, and a neighbor or two who you think is going to grab them before you build your first colony ship? Find a nearby empty space hex and build a Battlestation to spread your influence to cover the six hexes around it, and “claim” those systems as yours. You can’t build in Nebulas or Ion Storms, so find an empty space/path where your enemies have to go through in order to reach you, and block that path with a Battlestation (military use), very useful early one when no one has shield tech. Build a listening post near a monster or remnant occupied hex that you are not in a point to contest now, but want to make sure your neighbors cant grab it either (carefully construct it one hex away so it doesn’t trigger their reactions practice finding the right spot with a survey ship economic and victory points use).į.

Establishing fueling depots for your deep space Survey Ships (send a survey ship in a straight line until it runs out of fuel at 0%, carefully plot the course so it doesn’t run into ion storms, monsters or remnants on the cryosleep back) build a fuel depot somewhere before that point. Claiming interesting special sectors (economic and victory points use)Ĭ. Fortifying the border with Battlestation with listening posts (defensive use).ī. Have more then one construction ship on hand, they are useful for:Ī. You can order a construction ship to start building a station as soon as you cross the border into a new hex, it will automatically move towards the center and start construction. I am doing my best to stay out of that mess. The Hive and Humans have been at war for decades now and have somehow reached a stalemate I can’t see the actual battles, but the borders have shifted dozens of time and in the “Victory Screen” they are both relatively close to each other in all categories. Why they didn’t just hold position outside of laser range and bombarded me with missiles/fighters at long range first to weaken it first is beyond me)

#Stardrive 2 a lot of research full#
The Wolf Pirates attacked one of my colonies with a full fleet, and got massacred (all default tech, I am sure my racial bonuses as the Samurai Bears must have been the difference. (1/4) Have Hard Negotiators (Wolf Pirates, they got eaten by the Hive fast.) (3/4) Have Technologist & Hard Negotiators (Opteris Hive, United Federation, Ralyeh Theocracy) Leader Traits, of the four races I have encountered so far, I see a bias in the AI: Note: with one exception I have not read any wikis or players guide before I started my game (with the most recent updates, I wanted to give the game a “fresh look”.

I know some of these things are bleedingly obvious to some of the experienced players, but this is all new to me.
#Stardrive 2 a lot of research manual#
I did read the Manual (note, the ground combat section needs updates, and the bonuses/maluses could use a section), and I did all the in-game tutorials. Below is a “stream of thoughts” of my current game in progress, and what lessons/observations I have learned along the way.
